SUMMARY

Doskey is a command-line utility for recalling MS-DOS commands, editing command lines, and creating macros. In Windows Millennium Edition (Me), Doskey is loaded by default when you start a command session (or window). Windows Me loads Doskey with the /insert option enabled.

MORE INFORMATION

In earlier versions of Windows, Doskey is not loaded by default when you start a command session. You can start Doskey manually in a command session if you want. When you start Doskey in an earlier version of Windows, the /insert option is not enabled by default.

The default Doskey behavior in Windows Me is specified in the Windows\Command\Cmdinit.bat file. If you do not want the /insert option enabled by default, edit the Cmdinit.bat file and remove the "/insert" text.

Or, you can simply press INSERT on the keyboard in a command session to toggle the insert behavior for Doskey.
