You try to open a Web folder from a remote Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV)-enabled site. The Web folder requires user authentication. In this scenario, you are not redirected to a password change page, and you receive the following error message: The current operation cannot be completed because an unexpected error has occurred.
Note The HTTP 403 error messages are located in the IIS log and in the Network Monitor capture on the Web server. CAUSEThis problem occurs because of an expected behavior of WebDAV. The WebDAV verbs and methods are not designed to accept rendered HTML as a response. Additionally, the Web folder view resembles Windows Explorer view, and this view does not support rendered HTML or redirection. If you want to have the password change functionality automatically present the first time that you access a Web folder, you cannot use WebDAV verbs or methods to log on to the remote location of the Web folder. WORKAROUND To work around this problem, use the Internet Explorer address bar to access the remote Web folder site in the HTTP URL format. You will be redirected to the password change page when you open the Web folder. When you access the Web folder in this manner, you are prompted for user credentials, and then you are redirected to the password change page.
