Host header names that contain an underscore character are not supported in IIS 7.0

INTRODUCTION

You try to configure a host header name in the Add Web Site Binding dialog box in Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.0. However, if the host header name contains an underscore (_) character, you receive the following error message:
The host header specified is invalid. A host header can contain only alphabets, 0-9, . , - .
Additionally, if you try to programmatically set a host header name that contains an underscore character, the Web site will not start.

In earlier versions of IIS, you could configure a host header name that contained an underscore character. Starting with IIS 7.0, host header names that contain an underscore character are not supported.
