S3 TRIO 3D Video Driver Provided by Windows 2000 Does Not Support all Available Video Frequency Modes

When you configure a S3 TRIO 3D video adapter on a Windows 2000-based computer to use video frequency modes (such as 43Hz, 48Hz, or 85Hz) previously supported in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, your video display does not work.

This issue occurs because the generic driver provided by Windows 2000 for the S3 TRIO 3D video adapter uses Display Data Channel (DDC). Because of this, it does not support all the available video frequency modes for this video adapter.

To work around this issue, install a driver provided by the third-party manufacturer:

1. Right-click the desktop, click Properties, click Settings, and then click Advanced.
2. Click Monitor, click Properties, click Driver, and then click Update Driver.
3. Click Next, click Display a list of the known drivers, and then click Next.
4. Click Have Disk, insert the driver disk into drive A, and then click OK.
5. Click Finish.
6. Close all open windows.

This behavior is by design.

DDC is the Plug and Play standard for monitors. DDC-based monitors are designed to meet the Video Electronic Standards Association (VESA) standard that defines the DDC implementation. Windows 2000 automatically detects and enumerates a DDC monitor if it is connected to a video adapter that has also been designed to support the DDC standard.
