Works 2000: Works 99 Calendar Reminders Continue to Function After You Upgrade

After you upgrade from Microsoft Works 99 to Microsoft Works 2000, you may receive the following error message each time you start your computer: In addition, reminders from the Works 99 calendar still appear at the appropriate time, and a shortcut to Microsoft Works Calendar Reminders remains on the Start menu.

NOTE: This error message can also occur if you remove Works 99 Calendar and you do not upgrade to Works 2000.

This behavior can occur if both of the following conditions are true:

• Works 99 is installed on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer.
• Works 99 Calendar still contains active reminders.

NOTE: When you run the Works 99 Setup program to install or uninstall Works 99 on a Windows 2000-based computer, you may receive the following error message:

To resolve this issue, delete the Microsoft Works Calendar Reminder shortcut:

NOTE: The shortcut also remains if you remove the Works 99 Calendar but do not upgrade to Works 2000.

To delete a shortcut from the Start menu, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then point to Startup.
2. Right-click the shortcut you want to delete, and then click Delete.

NOTE: These steps delete the shortcut icon, not the program itself.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Works Suite 99.
