Works 2000: Changing Cell Contents from a String to a Formula and Clicking "Undo Entry" Causes an Error Message

When you type a string into a Microsoft Works 2000 Spreadsheet cell, change that cell so that it contains a formula, and then undo the change, the following error messages may occur, depending on your operating system:

• In Windows 95:
  WKSSS caused an invalid page fault in
  module WKSSS.EXE at 0137:0050d61b.
  When you click OK, Works Spreadsheet quits.
• In Windows 98:
  This program has performed an illegal operation
  and will be shut down.
  
  If the problem persists, contact the program
  vendor.
  When you click Close, Works Spreadsheet quits.
• In Windows 2000:
  
  Works Spreadsheet unexpectedly quits, with no error message.

After you change a cell from a string to a formula, this problem occurs when you click Undo Entry on the Edit menu.

To work around this problem, manually delete the equal sign (=) instead of clicking Undo Entry on the Edit menu.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

A string is a sequence of numbers, letters, or symbols. A string can be a single number "3," a single character "c," or a series of characters. For example, 3*A1 is a string. The string may resemble a formula, but a formula is always preceded by an equal sign. For example, =3*A1 is a formula, not a string.
