SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to replace text in a cell in Microsoft Works Spreadsheet, you may receive the following message:
Works did not find a match.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the text that you are attempting to replace contains a percent sign (%) or a dollar sign ($).

Works Spreadsheet interprets the percent sign and the dollar sign as formatting.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, find all percent signs and dollar signs and manually replace them with the appropriate text. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. On the Edit menu, click Find.
  2. In the Find what box, type the character that you want to find (either % or $).
  3. Click Find Next.
  4. When the data is found, manually replace the character in the cell.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you have replaced all the characters.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

APPLIES TO
