SYMPTOMS

When you open a Microsoft Works Spreadsheet document in Microsoft Excel 2000, and you then reopen this file in Works Spreadsheet, the column width set originally in Works Spreadsheet may not be maintained.

For example, if you set the column width to 10 (default) in Works Spreadsheet, make changes to the file in Excel 2000, and then reopen the file in Works Spreadsheet, the column width is now set to 8.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the default column width for Works Spreadsheet is different than the default column width for Excel 2000. When an Excel worksheet is opened in Works Spreadsheet, it has the Works Spreadsheet default column width.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. Reopen your Works Spreadsheet document.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Select All.
  3. On the Format menu, click Column Width.
  4. Click Set column width (in characters) to, and then type the width that you want in the box.
  5. Click OK.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Works 6.0
  • Microsoft Works Suite 2001
  • Microsoft Works 7.0
  • Microsoft Works Suite 2002
  • Microsoft Works Suite 2003
