Works 6: Picture Object in a Text Box Does Not Behave As Expected

When you insert a picture object into a text box in Microsoft Works Word Processor, you may see some unexpected results, as in the following examples. Examples for Works 6.

Example 1

1. Start Works Word Processor.
2. On the Insert menu, click Text Box.
3. Grab a corner selection handle and resize the text box to contain a large picture object (approximately 5 inches x 5 inches).
4. On the Format menu, click Text Box.
5. On the Size tab, type 90 in the Rotation box, and then click OK.
6. Click inside the text box.
7. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click Clip Art.
8. Select the Text category.
9. Select BD05090_.WMF (ABCD), and then click Insert.
   
   Note that part of the picture is clipped off.

Example 2

1. Start Works Word Processor.
2. On the Insert menu, click Text Box.
3. Grab a corner selection handle and resize the text box to contain a large picture object, (approximately 5 inches x 5 inches).
4. Click inside the text box.
5. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click Clip Art.
6. Select the Text category.
7. Select SY01148.WMF (D), and then click Insert.
8. Try to reposition the picture by dragging it to another location in the text box.
   
   Note that the picture does not move.

This issue occurs because a text box is an object itself, and when two objects directly interact, unexpected behavior can occur.

To work around this issue, place picture objects outside of rotated text boxes. To place a picture object inside an unrotated text box where you want it, press the SPACEBAR, and then press ENTER to position the insertion point where you want the object to be inserted.
