Works 2001: Minimum System Requirements

This article lists the minimum system requirements needed to run Microsoft Works 6 and Microsoft Works Suite 2001.

Microsoft Works 6

To run Microsoft Works 6, you need:

• Multimedia PC with a Pentium 90 MHz or faster processor.
• Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, or Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system or later.
• 16 megabytes (MB) of RAM (32 MB recommended).
• 65-165 MB of available hard disk space.
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 (included) or later. Up to an additional 80 MB of hard disk space may be required for Internet Explorer upgrade. This installation will not replace your primary browser.
• Quad-speed or faster CD-ROM drive.
• Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device.
• Super VGA, 256-color or higher-resolution monitor.

To use additional items or services you need:

• 14,400 bits-per-second (bps) or faster modem.
• Internet access, which may require payment of a separate fee to an Internet service provider.

Microsoft Works Suite 2001

To run Microsoft Works Suite 2001 you need:

• Multimedia PC with a Pentium 166 MHz or faster processor.
• Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows 2000 operating system or later.
• 32 MB of RAM for Windows 95 or Windows 98 (32 MB of RAM recommended), or 64 MB of RAM for Windows 2000 Professional.
• 700 MB of available hard disk space required for a minimum installation; 850 MB of available hard disk space required for typical installation. A custom installation may require more or less hard disk space.
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 (included) or later. Up to additional 80 MB of hard disk space may be required for Internet Explorer upgrade. This installation will not replace your primary browser.
• Quad-speed or faster CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive.
• Super VGA, 256-color or higher monitor supporting 640 x 480 or higher resolution. (A super VGA, 256-color or higher monitor supporting 800 x 600 screen resolution with 16-bit color recommended.)
• Microsoft Mouse, Microsoft IntelliMouse®, or compatible pointing device.
• Sound output with speakers or headphones recommended.

To use additional items or services you need:

• 28,000 bps or faster modem.
• Internet access, which may require payment of a separate fee to an Internet service provider.
• 8 MB of additional hard disk space to run Office E-mail.
• Windows-compatible color printer for full-color output.
• Microphone required for voice recording.
• Microsoft Outlook 2000 messaging and collaboration client, or Microsoft Outlook Express 5.0 (included) or later required to run Office E-mail.
• MAPI-enabled e-mail client required to mail pictures and projects to others.
• Up to 2 MB of additional hard disk space for each monthly installment in Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia 2001.
