XCCC: Error Message When Installing Conferencing Server

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server, you may receive the following error message:
Setup cannot continue. Either this domain does not include an installation of Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, or you do not have permission to install Microsoft Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server.

CAUSE

When you run Setup, the server's domain is determined by the NetworkAddress property. If the server's primary Domain Name Server suffix is different from the Microsoft Windows NT domain name in which the computer is a member, the server cannot be found, and the installation is unsuccessful.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, add the following registry entry:

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
  2. Locate and click the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange Conferencing\Parameters
  3. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and enter the following value:
    Value Name: Setup Prerequisites
    Data Type: 000001a7 (hex)
When this registry key is added, the Domain Name Server configuration is maintained and Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server is successfully installed.

To bypass the prerequisite check, set the appropriate registry key: On the Start menu, click Run. In Open, type Regedit. Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_Local_Machine\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange Conferencing\Parameters
Then follow these steps:
  1. Right-click Parameters, point to New, and then click DWORD.
  2. Type a name of Setup Prerequisites, and then press ENTER.
  3. Right-click Setup Prerequisites, and then click Modify. In Value name, make sure it says Setup Prerequisites.
  4. In Base, select Hexadecimal, and in Value data, enter one of the following values, which depends on your situation:
  • To force a valid FIRST installation of Conferencing with Internet Information Server installed, type in 1A7.
  • To force a valid SECOND+ installation of Conferencing with Internet Information Server installed, type in 1BF .
  • To force a valid FIRST installation of Conferencing without Internet Information Server installed, type in 27.
  • To force a valid SECOND installation of Conferencing without Internet Information Server installed, type in 3F.
