SYMPTOMS

When you create an Outlook 2002 profile on a computer that runs Windows Millennium Edition (Me) and that contains more than one profile, the store is set by default to roam. Stores should not roam by default.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because of the file structure. Your Outlook 2002 profile is not stored in the userprofile\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder. Instead, it is stored in the C:\Windows\Profiles\userprofile\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder, which lacks a Local Settings folder.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior and prevent the profile from roaming, move the Personal Folder and Offline Folder files into a folder that is outside the Windows profile.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Outlook 2002 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
