SYMPTOMS

In a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 domain, you can implement the system policy
Remove folders from Settings on Start Menu
for users or groups (which is located in the \User Policy\Shell\Restrictions\ folder). As a result, Windows 2000-based client computers on the domain are unable to print and the users receive the following error message:
An error occurred during this operation.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because when you remove the folders from the Settings menu in Windows 2000, this also disables the programs that are represented in the folder, which includes Control Panel, Printers and Network, and Dial up Connection.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, you have to remove the system policy so that Windows 2000-based computers are able to print.
