A USB Device May Not Work on a Computer That Has Multiple Processors

SYMPTOMS

When you use a USB device under the following conditions, the USB device may stop responding and you may need to restart your computer:
  • If the USB device has multiple ports

    -and-
  • If you are using the USB device to perform bulk transfers (bulk read or write transfers)

    -and-
  • If the computer has multiple processors

    -and-
  • If the computer is running Windows 2000

CAUSE

This problem occurs because there is an issue with the code for the Uhcd.sys driver.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
