SYMPTOMS

When you try to create a report from a Microsoft Works database, no data is displayed when you preview or print the database report. As a result, you cannot create and print a report from a Works database.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the Works database is damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, copy data from your existing Works database into a new database, and then create a new report. To do this, follow these steps.

Note When you copy your data into a new database, your data is preserved; however, formulas, field names, and reports are not saved. You must rename and reformat each field in the new database.
  1. Start the Works database, and then open the database that you want.
  2. On the View menu, click List.
  3. Click any cell in your database.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Select All, and then click Copy.
  5. On the File menu, click New.

The Microsoft Works Task Launcher appears.
  6. In the right pane, click Start a blank database.
  7. Click Add in the Create Database dialog box, and then click Done.

    A new blank database appears.
  8. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
  9. Click Yes when you receive the following message:
The source data is larger than the selection. Add new fields to make it fit?

Click Yes to add fields, click No to trim source to fit current selection, or click Cancel.
  10. On the File menu, click Save.
  11. In the Save As dialog box, type a name and location where you want to save your new database, and then click Save.
  12. If necessary, rename and select a format for each field in your database.

Click the field, and then click Field on the Format menu. Make the changes that you want in the Format dialog box, and then click OK.
  13. Click Save on the File menu.
