SYMPTOMS

E-mail messages are not delivered from a server that is running Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server to another Exchange 2000 server in the same site. Additionally, you may receive a non-delivery report (NDR) message that is similar to the following message:
The e-mail address could not be found. Perhaps the recipient moved to a different e-mail organization, or there was a mistake in the address. Check the address and try again. <Server> #5.1.0

CAUSE

This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • The Categorizer is running under the Local System account.
  • The Categorizer has insufficient permissions to access the destination Exchange server object when the Categorizer resolves the HomeMDB attribute or the HomeMTA attribute of the recipients.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Start Exchange System Manager.
  2. Right-click the destination Exchange server object, and then click Properties.
  3. Click Security, click to select the Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object check box, and then click OK.
  4. Quit Exchange System Manager.
