List of Management and Administration Fixes in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3

Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) addresses the following management and administration bugs and update scenarios:

• System Policy Editor Does Not Parse ADM File
  The Windows 2000 System Policy Editor (Poledit.exe) does not parse Administrative template (ADM) files on Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)-based computers.
• Imagemap.exe and Htimage.exe Contain Security Vulnerabilities and Are Removed
  The Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions-related files, Imagemap.exe and Htimage.exe, are no longer included with Windows. These files are largely obsolete and contain reported security vulnerabilities.
• Shortcuts Added After You Remove the Windows 2000 Administration Tools
  When you remove (uninstall) the Windows 2000 Administration Tools (Adminpak.msi), the following three shortcuts are added to the Start menu:
  Routing and Remote Access
  Distributed File System
  Internet Services Manager
• Cannot Post a Message after a Server or Network Problem
  After a server or network problem, temporary files may be left in the _slavegroup\_slavegroup folder. These orphaned files are not removed by a rebuild operation and may randomly prevent the posting of a message, because a file with the same name as the one that you want to post is still present in this folder.
• Update to Generate a Warning Event When the Security Log Exceeds a Configurable Threshold
  This update is to make sure that administrators who configure Windows to shut down when the security audit log is full have enough warning to back up and clear the security log.
• Folder Redirection Does Not Redirect Folders Back to a User's Local Profile When a Policy is Removed
  If you configure Advanced folder redirection to redirect a user's folders, and you set the policy to redirect the user's folders back to the local user profile location when the policy is removed, that user's folders are not redirected back to their local user profile location if you remove the user from the security group that controls the folder redirection at the same time as you delete the policy.
• Stack Overflow in Svchost Running Remote Procedure Call Server Service (RPCSS)
  A stack overflow occurs because the Userenv!CreateEnvironmentBlock function consumes too much of the stack. This update allocates memory for these variables instead of using stack space.
• Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Does Not Correctly Report Processor Speed
  An error in calculations causes WMI to return an inaccurate MAX speed and Current speed.
