SUMMARY

Unable to add database to Recovery Storage Group. Error Message in pop-up box: "The search filter cannot be recognized". Facility: Win32. ID No:8007203e. Exchange System Manager".

SYMPTOMS

When attempting to add a database to the Recovery Storage Group, you receive an error message: "The search filter cannot be recognized". Facility: Win32. ID No:8007203e. Exchange System Manager".
You are unable to add a database to recover.

CAUSE

By default, mailbox stores in Exchange 2003 are named MailboxStore (Server Name). If the mailbox store is renamed and is missing a leading or trailing parenthesis, this error will be encountered.

RESOLUTION

Right-Click the incorrectly formatted mailbox store name in the Exchange System Manager. Select "Rename" and add the appropriate leading or trailing parenthesis so that the mailbox store is in the expected format of MailboxStore (Server Name), or rename the store so that there are no mismatched parenthesis. In some cases, you may need to rename the mailbox store via Adsiedit. See "More Information".

MORE INFORMATION

If all the names of the mailbox stores are formatted correctly in ESM, you may need to rename the mailbox store with adsiedit.msc.
Use the Adsiedit tool that is included with the Microsoft Windows 2003 Support tools to rename the mailbox store name.

WARNING: Using Adsiedit incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Adsiedit can be solved. Use Adsiedit at your own risk.

1. Run Adsiedit.msc
2. Browse to: Configuration/Configuration/Services/Microsoft Exchange/Exchange Org Name/Administrative Groups/Administrative Group Name/Servers/Server Name/Information Store/Storage Group Name
3. Right-Click the incorrectly formatted mailbox store name and select rename.
