SUMMARY

This article discusses the support of multiple-line fields in Works for Windows Database fields.

Works 3.0 and Works 4.0, 4.5, and 4.5a for Windows 95

Works 3.0 for Windows and Works 4.0, 4.5, and 4.5a for Windows 95 support multiple-line fields in Form view, List view, and the Report view. The Works Wrap Text command is available in the List and Report views to enable multiple-line fields in those views as well as in Form view.

Form View

To wrap text in form view.

NOTE: If you are using Works for Windows 95, switch to Form Design view before completing the following steps.

  1. Highlight the field that contains the text you want to wrap.
  2. From the Format menu, click Field Size.
  3. In the Height box, enter the number of lines you want to display. For example, if you want a three-line field, enter 3 in the Height box. Click OK.

List View

To wrap text in list view:

  1. Highlight the field that contains the text you want to wrap.
  2. From the Format menu, click Alignment.
  3. Choose the horizontal and vertical alignment you want for the field.
  4. Select the Wrap Text check box. Click OK.
  5. From the Format menu, click Record Height and either click Best Fit or enter the height of the record in points.

Report View

To wrap text in report view:

  1. Create a new report or open an existing report.
  2. Highlight the record field that contains the text you want to wrap.
  3. From the Format menu, click Alignment.
  4. Choose the horizontal and vertical alignment you want for the field.
  5. Select the Wrap Text check box. Click OK.
  6. From the Format menu, click Row Height and either click Best Fit or enter the height of the row in points.

Works Version 2.0

The Database fields in Works version 2.0 for Windows support multiple-line fields in form view only. This fields will automatically wrap the text in the form view but will truncate long fields when printing from list view or from a custom report definition.

There are two ways to print a multiple-line field that is word wrapped:

  1. Print from form view.
    -or-
  2. In the Word Processor module, set up a form letter with the desired database.
