SYMPTOMS

When you try to create a mailbox by using the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in, you receive the following error message:
The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted facility win32 ID no. c007054b Microsoft Active Directory - Exchange Extension.
This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • You are using the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based workstation.
  • The workstation belongs to a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based domain.
  • You are trying to connect to a Windows 2000-based domain.
  • The Windows 2000-based domain contains a computer that is running Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, submit a request to Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.

Note Because of file dependencies, this hotfix requires Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 3.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, create the mailbox by using the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in on the computer that is running Exchange 2000 Server. You can use the snap-in locally or through Terminal Services.
