may stop running, and all restore points are deleted. When this occurs, the
following error is recorded in the system event log: 0xc0000040 In this scenario, the System Restore utility restarts the next time that Windows is started, and new restore points are created. CAUSEThis issue may occur under a rare set of circumstances --
specifically, when a program or programs try to simultaneously access and
modify the same file in a way that creates a conflict with the functions of the
System Restore utility. This issue has been reported in connection with RealOne Player by Real Networks. STATUS Microsoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.
