SUMMARY

When you are using a Works Spreadsheet module or Database module file that contains 0-width columns, and you save the file in a Text And Commas or Text And Tabs format, the data in the 0-width columns will be lost in the text version of the file.

NOTE: Other kinds of column formatting will not affect what is or is not saved when you save a file in text format.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Open a new Spreadsheet module document.
  2. In cells A1-D1, type the numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4 respectively (one number for each cell). Your spreadsheet should look like the following example:
             | A | B | C | D |
          ----------------------------------------------------
          1 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
          ----------------------------------------------------

  3. Set the width of column B to 0.
  4. From the File menu, click the Save File As command, and enter the filename SPIFF.TXT. Under Format, click Text And Commas.
  5. Close the file.
  6. Open SPIFF.TXT as a Word Processor file.
Note that Works saved only the numbers 1, 3, and 4; the 2 in column B is gone. The same results will occur when you save files in the Text And Tabs format. This behavior exists in both the MS-DOS and Windows versions of Microsoft Works.
