Session Summary

Thursday, December 2, 2004

The Volume Shadow Copy service is a new service in Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Server 2003. The Volume Shadow Copy service is a new framework to permit different applications, storage subsystems, and storage management applications (including backup applications) to define, save, and use consistent point-in-time copies of storage data for backup, restore, and other purposes. This WebCast will cover the Requestor and Writer application programming interfaces (APIs).

This is a Level 400 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=gp;en-us;webcastlevels&sd=gn) session presented by Reuven Lax and Paul Luber.

Reuven Lax has been a member of the Windows Core File Services group at Microsoft for the past three years. As a developer, he works primarily in the area of storage services with a special focus on the Volume Shadow Copy service. Reuven also works with customers and partners on issues surrounding Volume Shadow Copy service deployments and product development.

Paul Luber has been with Microsoft for more than four years. He is a program manager in the Windows Core File Services team primarily focused on the Volume Shadow Copy service, and he has been responsible for other storage technologies at Microsoft in the past. Before he joined the Windows Core File Services team, Paul worked in Microsoft Research in the area of performance analysis and optimizations.
