Only one of the multiple distribution points is added to a package in a multi-tier SMS 2003 hierarchy

Consider the following scenario:

• You have configured a multi-tier hierarchy of Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 by using the fan-out feature.
• You define packages at the central site for software distribution.
• You add multiple distribution points to a package on a site that is two or more tiers away from the central site.

In this scenario, only one distribution point at the lower tier is added to the package. Therefore, only that distribution point receives the package.

This problem occurs because Distribution Manager incorrectly processes certain SRV files. These SRV files contain the instruction to add the packages to the distribution point in the intermediate sites between the central site and the site on which the package was modified.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

File information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

This problem is also fixed in Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 Service Pack 1.
