SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Compute Cluster Edition, you try to add or remove a Windows component by using the Add or Remove Programs item in Control Panel. In this situation, you receive one of the following messages:
Please insert the Compact Disc labeled 'Windows Server 2003 Standard x64 Edition CD-ROM' into your CD-ROM drive (drive:) and then click OK.
Please insert the Compact Disc labeled 'Service Pack 1 CD-ROM' into your CD-ROM drive (drive:) and then click OK.
However, neither of these CDs is provided as part of the Windows Server 2003 Compute Cluster Edition package.

CAUSE

Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003 is an integrated, standards-based compute clustering platform that is built into Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP1 x64 Edition. In some instances, not all references in the installation files have been updated in Windows Server 2003 Compute Cluster Edition. Therefore, when an additional CD is required to add or remove Windows components, you may be prompted to insert a CD that was not included as part of the package.

WORKAROUND

When you are prompted for either the Windows Server 2003 Standard x64 Edition CD or the Service Pack 1 CD, insert the Windows Server 2003 Compute Cluster Edition CD instead.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
