Error message when you try to connect to the SoftGrid Management Web Service from the SoftGrid Management Console: "Error code: 0000C801"

SUMMARY

When you try to connect to the SoftGrid Management Web Service from the SoftGrid Management Console, the program does not respond, and you receive the following error message:
Unable to log into the SoftGrid System.
Invalid user name or password.
Error code: 0000C801
When this problem occurs, the following entry is logged in the SoftGrid Management Console log:
No information is available at this time.

This problem can occur if one or more of the following conditions are true.
  • The specified port is invalid.

    The port that is specified in the Port field is not a port that the Web server is listening on.
    Note The Port field appears in the Connect to SoftGrid System dialog box or in the Configure Connection dialog box in the SoftGrid Management Console.
  • Basic authentication is not enabled.

    In the Connect to SoftGrid System dialog box or in the Configure Connection dialog box in the SoftGrid Management Console, the logon credentials are specified as Specify Windows Account. Additionally, basic authentication has not been enabled on the SoftGridManagement Virtual Directory.

    To verify authentication, follow these steps:
    1. On the Administrative Tools menu, click Internet Information Services.
    2. Expand Internet Information Services, expand server_name, and then expand Default Web Site.
    3. Right-click SoftGridManagement, and then click Properties.
    4. Click the Directory Security tab.
    5. In the Anonymous access and authentication control window area, click Edit.
    6. Click to select the Basic authentication (password is sent in clear text) check box.
    7. Underneath the check box from step 6, click Edit to select a default domain.
    8. In the Basic Authentication Domain window, type the domain name in the Domain Name box. Then click OK.
    9. Click OK two times.
  • Integrated Windows authentication is not enabled.

    In the Connect to SoftGrid System dialog box or in the Configure Connection dialog box in the SoftGrid Management Console, the logon credentials are specified as Specify Windows Account. Additionally, integrated Windows authentication has not been enabled on the SoftGridManagement Virtual Directory.

    To verify authentication, follow these steps:

    3. Right-click SoftGridManagement, and then click Properties.

  • On the computer that has the SoftGrid Management .NET Web service, the SoftGrid Administrators group is not granted the following permissions to the C:\WINNT\Microsoft.Net\Framework\v1.1.4322 folder:
    • Read
    • Read and Execute
    • List Folder Contents
