When you print to a locally installed Adobe PDF writer printer, the print spooler tries to access a registry value in the local registry that only exists within the virtual registry. To work around this behavior, you must create a registry value in the local registry to let the print spooler pass through to the virtual registry.

Create the passthrough registry value

Start Registry Editor.
Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Softricity\SystemGuard\CurrentVersion\Overrides.
Right-click Overrides, point to New, and then click String Value.
For New Value #1, type VirtualRegistryPassthrough, and then press ENTER.
Right-click VirtualRegistryPassthrough, and then click Modify.
For Value data, type Software\Adobe\Acrobat Distiller\6.0\PrinterJobControl, and then click OK.
Exit Registry Editor.

Clear the print queue

If you still cannot print to a locally installed Adobe PDF writer printer after you add the registry value, follow these steps.

In Control Panel, click Printers and Faxes.
Right-click the Adobe PDF writer printer, and then click Open.
If the print job is still in the queue, right-click the job, and then click Cancel.
Close the printer window.
Start Registry Editor.
Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Distiller\6.0\PrinterJobControl.
Clear any failed print jobs that are listed under PrinterJobControl.
Exit Registry Editor.
