In Microsoft Outlook, you try to send an e-mail message to a contact who was added to the Contacts folder. When you try to add the contact to the Outlook Address Book from the
Contacts list, you may not find the name of the contact in the
Contacts list.
However, when you enter the first letter of the contact's name in the
Type Name or Select from List box, the contact is displayed in the
Contacts list.
This issue occurs when lots of contacts do not have e-mail addresses in the Contacts folder.
To work around this issue, follow these steps:
- Determine whether there are lots of contacts who do not have e-mail addresses. To do this, follow these steps:
- Open the Contacts folder.
- On the View menu, point to Arrange By, point to Current View, and then click Define Views.
- In the Custom View Organizer dialog box, click By Category, and then click Apply View.
- In the Category view, right-click the Full Name field, and then click Field Chooser.
- In the Field Chooser dialog box, select E-mail fields in the list, and then move the E-mail field to the right side of the Full Name field by using a drag-and-drop operation.
- Repeat step 1e to move the E-mail2 field and the E-mail3 field to the right side of the Full Name field.
- Click the E-mail field to sort the contacts alphabetically by e-mail address.
Note If there are lots of contacts who do not have e-mail addresses, go to step 2.
- Create a new contact folder in which to save
the contacts who do not have e-mail addresses. To do this, follow these steps:
- Open the Contacts folder.
- On the File menu, point to New, and then click Folder.
- In the Create New Folder dialog box, type Contact_Phone in the Name box, and then click OK.
- Move the contacts that do not have e-mail addresses from the Contacts folder to the Contact_Phone folder. To do this, follow these steps:
- Open the Contacts folder.
- Select all contacts that do not have e-mail addresses.
- On the Edit menu, click Move to Folder.
- In the Move Items dialog box, click Contact_Phone, and then click OK.
