Error message when you try to install a version of Works that is earlier than Works 8 on a Windows Vista-based computer: "This Program has known compatibility issues"

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft Works 7.0 or an earlier version on a Windows Vista-based computer, you receive one or more of the following error messages:
This program has known compatibility issues. Check online to see if solutions are available from the Microsoft website. If solutions are found, Windows will automatically display a website that lists steps you can take.

Note You can click the following options in the error message:
  • Check for solutions online
  • Run Program
  • Cancel

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Works 7.0 and earlier versions were not designed to run on a Windows Vista-based computer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, exit the Setup program or continue the Setup program. If you continue the Setup program, you will not experience optimal performance in Microsoft Works. We do not recommend that you install a Works 7.0 or an earlier version on a Windows Vista-based computer.
