Error message when you try to open an attachment in Outlook 2003: "'C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\<filename>' could not be found"

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open an attachment in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, you receive the following error message:
'C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\<filename>' could not be found. Check the spelling of the file name, and verify that the file location is correct. If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files on the File menu, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved, or deleted.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type %Temp%, and then click OK.
  2. Delete all files in the Temp folder.
  3. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click Internet Options.
  5. On the General tab, click Delete Files, click to select the Delete all offline content check box, and then click OK.
  6. On the desktop, right-click Recycle Bin, click Empty Recycle Bin, and then click Yes.
