INTRODUCTION

This article describes the location of the registry entries for signature data files and for the vCard file in Microsoft Office Outlook.

For Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 and for Microsoft Outlook 2002, the signature data files and the vCard file are located in the following folder:
\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Signatures
Note The following list contains the file names for the signature data files and for the vCard attachment file:
  • signame.txt
  • signame.htm
  • signame.rtf
  • vcardname.vcf

Signature entries

Outlook 2003

In Outlook 2003, signatures are not a global default setting as they were in earlier versions of Outlook. In Outlook 2003, signatures are saved for each account. The signature information is stored in the following messaging profile section of the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\profilename\9375CFF0413111d3B88A00104B2A6676\number
Note The number placeholder represents an account.

The signature for new messages and the signature for messages that you reply to and for messages that you forward are saved as a hexadecimal value.

Outlook 2002

Signatures for new messages
In Outlook 2002, signature information for new messages is stored in the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Common\MailSettings
Value name (REG_EXPAND_SZ):
NewSignature

This value must be NewSignature.
Value data:
signame

This value is the name of the signature files. For example, if the signature files are named Mysig.htm, Mysig.rtf, and Mysig.txt, the value data in this registry key is Mysig.
Signatures for messages that you reply to and for messages that you forward
In Outlook 2002, signature information for messages that you reply to and for messages that you forward is stored in the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Common\MailSettings
Value name (REG_EXPAND_SZ):
ReplySignature

This value must be ReplySignature.
Value data:
signame

This value is the name of the signature files. For example, if the signature files are named Myreplysig.htm, Myreplysig.rtf, and Myreplysig.txt, the value data in this registry key is Myreplysig.

vCard entries

The following information applies only when vCard is not part of the automatic signature.

Outlook 2003

In Outlook 2003, vCard information is stored in the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Signatures
Value name (REG_SZ):
signame

This value is the name of the signature files. For example, if the signature files are named Mysig.htm, Mysig.rtf, and Mysig.txt, the value data in this registry key is Mysig.
Value data:
vcardname

This value is the name of the vCard .vcf file. For example, if the vCard is named MyvCard.vcf, the value data in this registry key is MyvCard.

Outlook 2002

In Outlook 2002, vCard information is stored in the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Signatures
