When a collection is linked to multitier collections in System Center Configuration Manager 2007, the advertisement list for the collection is incomplete

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

In Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007, you have two multitier collections, Collection1 and Collection2. You add advertisements to each of these collections.

Note As multitier collections, both Collection1 and Collection2 have one or more collections under them in the collection tree.
You create a new collection, Collection3.
On Collection1, you create a link to Collection3. On Collection2, you also create a link to Collection3.

When you check the advertisement list for Collection3 in this scenario, not all the advertisements from Collection1 and Collection2 are displayed as expected.

Note This is only a display issue. All advertisements are successfully applied to Collection3.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the administrative console does not correctly enumerate all advertisements that are applied to Collection3.

WORKAROUND

To work around the issue, query the advertisements that were added to Collection1 and Collection2 (in the first bullet item in the "Symptoms" section), and then combine them into a complete advertisements list.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

Steps to reproduce the problem

In System Center Configuration Manager 2007, create a multitier collection, Collection1. Add an advertisement, Adv1, to Collection1.
Create another multitier collection, Collection2. Add an advertisement, Adv2, to Collection2.
Create a new collection, Collectiontest.
On Collection1, create a link to Collectiontest.
On Collection2, create a link to Collectiontest.
Right-click Collectiontest, click Properties, and then click Advertisements. The Adv2 advertisement is not displayed in the list as expected.
