Multiple error messages occur when you try to install Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1), you receive the error messages that resemble the following:

Hub Transport Role Prerequisites
Failed
Error:
This computer is running Windows Server 2003 and has not been assigned an IPv4
address. Check the network configuration. IPv6 is only supported in Exchange Server
2007 Service Pack 1 when it is installed on a Windows Server 2008 computer that has
both IPv4 and IPv6 enabled. See http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=102391 for
more details.
Error:
The Hub Transport server role is not installed on this computer.
Error:
You must be a member of the Exchange Organization Administrators group to upgrade
the first Hub Transport server role in your organization to Exchange Server 2007
Service Pack 1.
Error:
Setup cannot continue with upgrade because 'D:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange
Server\bin\ExchHelp.chm' is open. Close the file and restart setup.

When you view the Exchange Server Setup Progress.log file, you see the following errors for the Hub Transport server role

Similar errors can be seen for the Mailbox role and for the Client Server Access (CAS) role.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) is not initialized on the computer that is running Exchange Server 2007.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

Open a command prompt.
At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
for /f %s in ('dir /b *.dll') do regsvr32 /s %s
Note This command makes sure that all WBEM dynamic link library (.dll) files are registered correctly
At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
for /f %s in ('dir /b *.mof *.mfl') do mofcomp %s
Note This command provides an alternative to rebuilding the repository. The default WMI files have the .mof and .mfi file name extensions.
Restart the computer to initialize WMI.
Install Exchange Server 2007 SP1.
