SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You are working in a Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 Service Pack 1 (SP1) environment. Then, you use the SetActionAccount.exe utility on MOM agents to update the action account password or to change to a new action account. In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
Unable to set credentials. Verify the Management Group name is correct.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the SetActionAccount.exe utility does not work correctly on MOM 2005 SP1 agents.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix Information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites

You must apply this hotfix to each computer that hosts MOM 2005 SP1 Management Server or a MOM 2005 SP1 agent.

Restart Requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

This hotfix does not replace any other hotfixes.

File Information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

To apply this hotfix, follow these steps:
  1. Copy the Mom2005-sp1-kb961046-x86-ia64-enu.msi file to a local folder or to an available network shared folder.
  2. Run the Mom2005-sp1-kb961046-x86-ia64-enu.msi file locally on each applicable computer that meets the predefined criteria.
Note You can run the Mom2005-sp1-kb961046-x86-ia64-enu.msi file from Windows Explorer or at a command prompt. The MOM service restarts after the hotfix is applied.

To apply a hotfix for the MOM agent component, follow these steps:
  1. Use the MOM Administrator Console to apply the hotfix to MOM agents that have the Control Level setting set to None. Agents that can be automatically updated are listed in the following folder in the MOM Administrator Console:
    MOM\Administration\Computers
  2. Manually apply the hotfix to each MOM agent that has the Control Level setting set to None. These agents are listed in the following folder in the MOM Administrator console:
    MOM\Administration\Computers\Agent-managed Computers
After you apply the hotfix to the MOM server, and you manually install agents that have the Control Level setting set to Full, you can manually update these manually installed agents. Or, you can have the MOM server perform the update. To have the MOM server perform the update, follow these steps:
  1. Make sure that the manual installation is displayed as Approved in the Administrator Console Pending Actions folder.
  2. In the Agent-managed Computers folder, right-click the agent, and then run the Update Agent Settings task. The agent should be updated shortly.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
