Error message when you click the flag icon of a message in the message list view in Outlook Web Access 2003 when you are using Internet Explorer 8: "'firstchild.firstchild' is null or not an object"
You
use Windows Internet Explorer 8 to browse Microsoft Outlook Web Access
2003.
When you click
the flag icon of a message in the message list view, you receive an "Error on page" message. When you double-click the "Error on page" icon on the bottom left corner of Internet Explorer, the details of the message resemble the following:
'firstchild.firstchild' is null or not an object

Note This problem occurs even though you set Compatibility View
to the Internet Explorer 7 standards mode in Internet Explorer 8 for OWA
page.
To
resolve this issue, install the following hotfix. If you have not yet installed
Internet Explorer 8, preinstall this hotfix before you deploy Internet Explorer
8.

to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this
hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this
article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are

Prerequisites
This hotfix requires Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service
Pack 2 to be installed on the server because of file dependencies.
