After you install this hotfix, the features that are discussed in the "Symptoms" section are available.

Description of the Communicator 2007 R2 hotfix rollup package: January 2010
Office Communicator 2007 R2 CU4 supports interop with the x64 edition of Office Outlook by using Exchange Web Service (EWS) in an Exchange and an Office Communications Server integration environment. By default, Office Communicator uses EWS to download notifications every 15 minutes. These notifications previously relied on MAPI. This enables the following features:
