The SMS_EXECUTIVE service process (Smsexec.exe) crashes on a System Center Configuration Manager 2007 Service Pack 1 site server that allows SQL server authentication

The SMS_EXECUTIVE service process (Smsexec.exe) crashes on a System Center Configuration Manager 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) site server that allows SQL server authentication.
Additionally, the following information is logged in the Smsdbmon.log file:
*** [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user <xxxx>.
Note The xxxx placeholder holds random garbage characters.
This problem occurs because of a race condition that occurs when the following registry key is read or written at the same time:

File InformationThe English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

To work around this problem, configure the SQL Server for the Windows Authentication mode.
