Symptom

When executing the Update-StorageGroupCopy commandlet in Exchange Server 2007, a handle leak can occur.

Cause

The Update-StorageGroupCopy commandlet copies .edb file and .log files. During the copy an object handle is created in order to detect the completion of the write-operation, but the handle is not closed properly.

Resolution

Workaround:

In order to close the leaked handle, terminate the process which initiated the Update-StorageGroupCopy commandlet. Terminating the process closes all the handles owned by the process, including the ones that are leaking.
