The Start menu shortcut that points to Forefront for Exchange does not work in the German version of Windows Server 2008

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer that is running the German version of Windows 2008.
  • This computer has Microsoft Forefront Security for Exchange Server Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed.
When you click the Forefront Server Security Administrator shortcut on the Start menu in this scenario, the program does not open. Instead, a dialog box appears that contains the following text:
Verknupfungsproblem
Das Element "FSSAClient.exe", auf das sich die Verknupfung bezieht, wurde verandert oder verschoben.
Soll die Verknupfung geloscht werden?
Ja/Nein

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of a localization issue. By default, Forefront uses the user group name “Authenticated Users” to set up permissions instead of the security identifier (SID) of the Authenticated Users user group.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install Hotfix Rollup 3 for Microsoft Forefront Security for Exchange Server SP1. After you install this hotfix rollup, Forefront will use the SID instead of using the Authenticated Users group name. The SID is independent of the system language.
