You receive error message 8004010f-0501-00000000 when you navigate public folder hierarchy

If you navigate down the public folder hierarchy by using the Exchange Server Administrator program and click a particular public folder, you may receive the following error message: You are not able to navigate any further down this branch of the public folder hierarchy.

You may receive this error message if the following conditions exist:

• The Limit Administrative Access to Home Site check box is selected for the public folder (this is the default setting for Exchange Server version 5.5).
• The default user of the public folder has cleared the Folder Visible check box.
• You are using the Exchange Server Administrator program and are connected to another site (that is, a site that is not the home site, as specified on the Advanced tab of the public folder).

This behavior is by design.

If a public folder is marked as secure (that is, the Limit Administrative Access to Home Site check box is selected) and you connect to a server in a site other than the public folder's home site, you are not given extra privileges based on the fact that you are an administrator. Your permissions are then controlled based purely on public folder access control lists (ACLs), and because the ACL in this case has visibility turned off, even the Exchange Server Administrator program is unable to see the public folder in the hierarchy.

To workaround this problem:

• View the properties of any public folders that you have permissions for as an administrator that are below the problem public folder in the hierarchy in the Public Folder Resources list.
• From a client, click to select the Folder Visible check box for the default user of the problem public folder.
