The asset management license reports display incorrect channel information for some Windows operating systems in SMS 2003 with Service Pack 3Article ID: 936850 - View products that this article applies to. SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 with Service Pack 3 (SP3), the asset management license reports display incorrect channel information for some Windows operating systems. For example, channel code 0 (zero) may incorrectly appear for Windows operating systems that were installed by using a volume licensing product key (VLK). Note Channel code 0 corresponds to "Full Packaged Product." CAUSEThis problem occurs because the affected operating systems report an incorrect channel code to the SMS 2003 SP3 asset management collection agent. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. MORE INFORMATION If you use a volume licensing product key to install Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Microsoft Windows XP, the SMS 2003 SP3 asset management license reports may incorrectly list channel code 0 instead of channel code 3. Channel code 3 represents volume licensed products. The inventoried quantities of each software title remain accurate. However, volume license installations for Windows Server 2003 and for Windows XP are included in the aggregate count for channel code 0 products instead of in the aggregate count for channel code 3 products. Note No workaround or resolution is currently available for this problem. Properties |
