After you install Security Update MS11-072, folder names are duplicated when you save Microsoft Office Exce workbooks over a network. This breaks the links to other (external) workbooks. When you save the file, you receive the following message:
The file <file name> may have been changed by another user since you last saved it. In that case, what do you want to do? Save a copy, Overwrite changes.
If you open the Edit Links dialog box on a computer that has the security patch installed, Excel displays an additional copy of the share name. For example, the path to the linked file would typically be displayed as follows:
\\servername\folder\[file1.xlsx] will change to \\servername\folder\folder\[file1.xlsx

To resolve this issue, install the Excel 2007 update (2598032). For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2598032/EN-US])Description of the Excel 2007 hotfix package (Excel-x-none.msp, Graph-x-none.msp, Oart-x-none.msp, Oartconv-x-none.msp, Xlconv-x-none.msp): March 7, 2012
Note: Make sure that you update all installations of Excel 2007 with hotfix package 2598032 and all installations of Excel 2010 with hotfix package 2597940 before you try to share files that contain links to UNC paths between computers. If you save a workbook that contains a link to a UNC path in an updated version of Excel, and then you open the workbook in a version of Excel that is not updated, the link refers to the wrong address. For example, if you save a workbook that contains the link \\server\share\main\Book1.xlsx in an updated version of Excel, and then you open the workbook in a version of Excel that is not updated, the link refers to the address \\server\main\Book1.xlsx.
