On This PageSYMPTOMSIn Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE) 2.0, you try to install an earlier operating system, such as Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP. Then, you receive the following error message during the installation: <Task Sequence Name> has failed with the error code (0x800004005). For more information, please contact the system administrator or helpdesk operator. This problem also occurs when you try to deploy an earlier operating system by using Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) 2007. Note SCCM 2007 also uses Windows PE 2.0. CAUSEThis problem occurs because of a problem in Windows PE 2.0. This problem occurs when Windows PE 2.0 distinguishes between the raw disks for the system partition. If system has more than one raw disk, the function that is used to obtain system partition information returns false information.
RESOLUTIONA hotfix is available to resolve this problem. After you install this hotfix, follow these steps:
