FIX: A "Data abort" exception may occur in the RNDIS driver when you access an SMB shared file on a Windows CE 5.0-based device

Consider the following scenario.

• You run an image that contains the Remote Network Driver Interface Specification (RNDIS) component and the Server Message Block (SMB) component on a Microsoft Windows CE 5.0-based device.
• You use the SMB protocol to share a file on the device.
• You connect the device to a Microsoft Windows-based desktop computer by using a USB cable.
• The device handles the connection by using a USB function controller.
• You browse the SMB shared file in Windows Explorer on the desktop computer. When you do this, you use the IP address of the device in the range of 169.254.X.Y.
  
  Note X and Y are numbers between 1 and 254.

In this scenario, you may receive an exception in the debug output that resembles the following exception:

This problem occurs because a function in the RNDIS driver does not have the permissions to access some buffers in Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS) packets.

Software update information

Prerequisites

This software update is supported only if all previously issued software updates for this product have also been applied.

Restart requirement

After you apply this software update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform. To do this, use one of the following methods:

• On the Build OS menu, make sure that the following options are selected, and then click Sysgen:
  • Clean Before Building
  • Copy Files to Release Directory After Build
  • Make Run-Time Image After Build
• On the Build OS menu, click Open Release Directory, type blddemo clean -q at a Command Prompt window, and then press ENTER.

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this software update.
