When synchronization runs in Data Protection Manager 2007, the DPM service may unexpectedly crash

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

You are running an evaluation version of Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2007.
You back up the Data Protection Manager database, and then you uninstall the evaluation version by using the "Retain data" option.
You install the release version of Data Protection Manager 2007, and then you restore the database.

In this scenario, the DPM service crashes when synchronization runs.

Additionally, you may receive the following error message:

Dpmsync.exe has stopped working.

Faulting application msdpm.exe, version 2.0.5820.0, time stamp 0x46fa317c, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6001.17051, time stamp 0x47454d64, exception code 0xc0000374, fault offset <memory address>, process id <process ID>, application start time <time value>.

RESOLUTION

This problem is fixed in System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 Feature Pack. The Feature Pack is available on the download center.
