FIX: 404 error message when you start the Commerce Server 2007 Health Monitoring Service in Commerce Server 2007

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Commerce Server 2007, you use the Commerce Server Health Monitoring service to monitor the state of the Commerce Server 2007 Web services. When you try to start the Commerce Server 2007 Health Monitoring Service, you receive a 404 error message.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Commerce Server Health Monitoring Service tries to access each Commerce Server 2007 Web service by using the computer name instead of the configured nonsecure host name. However, the computer name may be disabled for the Internet Information Services (IIS) Web site that hosts the Web services.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Commerce Server 2007 service pack that contains this hotfix.

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

After you apply this hotfix, the MOMWebServiceConnectionMode registry entry is created. You can use this registry configuration option to select the name that the Commerce Server 2007 Health Monitor Service uses to connect to the Commerce Server 2007 Web services.

To complete the installation, you must follow these steps:

Open Registry Editor. To do this, use the appropriate method for your operating system:
- In Windows Vista, click Start

  , type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
- In Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
x86:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Commerce Server 2007
x64:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Commerce Server 2007
On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD value.
Click the MOMWebServiceConnectionMode registry entry.
On the Edit menu, click Modify.
In the Value data box, type one of the following values , and then click OK:
- 0: The computer name. This is the default setting.
- 1: The configured nonsecure host name
- 2: The IP address
Exit Registry Editor.

After you apply this hotfix, the Commerce Server Health Monitoring Service returns to its default setting. Therefore, the log on account is changed to Network Service, and the startup type is changed to Disable. You must manually reconfigure these settings back to the values that you set before you apply this hotfix.
Restart the Commerce Server Health Monitoring Service.
