Windows Security Center does not detect the antivirus application that is installed on a Windows Vista-based computer

SYMPTOMS

You have a Windows Vista-based computer that has an antivirus application installed. However, Windows Security Center does not detect that a valid antivirus application is installed on the computer. Instead, Windows Security Center displays the following statuses for firewall and malware protection:
  • Firewall: Windows Firewall is turned off.
  • Malware protection: Windows did not find antivirus software on this computer.

RESOLUTION

When this problem occurs, you may be able to resolve it if you uninstall and then reinstall the antivirus application. However, to prevent this problem from recurring, uninstall the antivirus application, apply this hotfix (952923), and then reinstall the antivirus application.
