FIX: SQL Server 2005 Express Edition cannot pass the Windows logo certification when you install an ISV application on a Windows Vista-based computer or on a Windows Server 2008-based computer

You have an application that is shipped by an independent software vendor (ISV) partner on a Windows Vista-based computer or on a Windows Server 2008-based computer. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition is shipped together with the application. When you install the application, SQL Server 2005 Express Edition cannot pass the Windows logo certification.

The fix for this issue was first released in Cumulative Update 8. You must apply a SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 hotfix to an installation of SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2. By default, any hotfix that is provided in a SQL Server service pack is included in the next SQL Server service pack.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

This hotfix embeds a User Access Control manifest file to each .exe file that is included in the installation .cab file of SQL Server 2005 Express edition. Therefore, applications that embed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition can now pass Windows logo certification.
