FIX: Error message when you run an MDX query in SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services after you install cumulative update 7 for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2: "The SQL Server Analysis Services (<InstanceName>) service terminated unexpectedly"Article ID: 955374 - View products that this article applies to. Bug #: Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2005 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2005 fix release. On This PageSYMPTOMSOn a server that is running Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services, you install cumulative update package 7 for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2. When you run a Multidimensional Expressions (MDX) query, the MDX query runs for a long time, and then the Analysis Services service stops unexpectedly. When this happens, you may see the following message in Event Viewer: The SQL Server Analysis Services (<InstanceName>) service terminated unexpectedly. Server: The operation has been cancelled. Infinite recursion detected. The loop of dependencies is: Count -> Count -> Count -> Count -> … Execution complete CAUSEThis problem occurs because of an infinite recursion in the MDX query. This infinite recursion causes a stack overflow that causes the Analysis Services service to stop.
