Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2005 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2005 fix release.

SYMPTOMS

On a server that is running Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services, you install cumulative update package 7 for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2. When you run a Multidimensional Expressions (MDX) query, the MDX query runs for a long time, and then the Analysis Services service stops unexpectedly. When this happens, you may see the following message in Event Viewer:
The SQL Server Analysis Services (<InstanceName>) service terminated unexpectedly.
Additionally, if you cancel the query execution when the MDX query is running, you receive the following error message:
Server: The operation has been cancelled.

Infinite recursion detected. The loop of dependencies is: Count -> Count -> Count -> Count -> …
Execution complete

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of an infinite recursion in the MDX query. This infinite recursion causes a stack overflow that causes the Analysis Services service to stop.

Important You must use this fix if you are running SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2.

The SQL Server 2005 builds that were released after SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 was released
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 hotfixes are created for specific SQL Server service packs. You must apply a SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 hotfix to an installation of SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2. By default, any hotfix that is provided in a SQL Server service pack is included in the next SQL Server service pack.
