SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • On a Microsoft Windows CE 5.0-based device, an application works to load and to unload an installable interrupt service routine (ISR) .dll file by calling the LoadIntChainHandler function and the FreeIntChainHandler function.
  • You terminate the application, and then you rerun it or start another process.
In this scenario, the system on the device may crash. Additionally, you experience one of the following symptoms:
  • You receive the following error message:
Cannot execute 'xxx.exe'. A critical component is either missing or is failing to start due to low memory.
  • You receive the following error message:
    Out Of Memory Error
There is not enough memory. Please exit some running programs and try again.
  • You receive the following error message in the debug output window:
    Halting system

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the cache is not flushed after the memory of the installable ISR .dll file is released back to the memory pool. Therefore, the physical memory pool may be corrupted.
